King Snefru's Bent Pyramid, the Valley Temple and the associated upper causeway were discovered and excavated by the renowned Egyptian archaeologist Ahmed Fakhry in the first half of the 1950s. The architectural features were documented by the architectural historian and Egyptologist Herbert Ricke. They discovered a large number of pieces and decorated blocks from the temple of the bent pyramid of King Snofru (4th dynasty, c. 2,600 BC). In three volumes, Ahmed Fakhry has published the results of his excavations on the Bent pyramid and its valley temple, as well as its decoration and some of the finds. His publications on the Bent pyramid and on the finds and relief decoration of the Valley Temple constitute a fundamental work for Egyptology. Unfortunately, A. Fakhry was only able to publish a fraction of his original discoveries.
