Mary Stout is one of the pioneers of modern gardening in Egypt. In 1921, Stout and Madeline Agar published an excellent manual entitled Gardening for the Sub-Tropics. Since 1921, gardening in Cairo has progressed so rapidly and significantly that it became clear that, although the manual remained the standard book on gardening, it needed to be expanded and updated.
